Ritz
History: The
Puttin' on the Ritz Theater is listed in the National Historic
Registry. Originally
a vaudeville
theater, the Ritz was constructed in 1927 in the Classical Revival
style, the Ritz was a popular downtown cinema before it went into a
period of decline in the 1970s when it became a venue for adult
movies. When videocassettes became more popular, it spelled the end
for many adult theaters, including the Ritz, which closed two
decades ago. A performing arts group rented the facility in 1986.
This landmark theater retains its original ticket booth and marquee
as well as Neoclassical-style murals in the auditorium. Now a
popular adult and children’s theater venue, the theater company
purchased the building in 2003 and entertains 70,000 patrons
annually.

EVP's
Applause
(click to listen) - Cheers can be
heard here however none of the investigators and none of the ritz staff
cheered for anything. The recorder was at the top of the steps in the
second floor. Two investigators were near the recorder and everyone else
was downstairs on the first floor in the theater.
