To walk in Philadelphia is to literally travel in the footsteps of history. There are those who contend that the spirits of those who shaped that history walk with you.  After the call to independence was sounded here, it was played out in the surrounding countryside by a young army whose spirit was forged through hardship and determination. Now, two centuries later, you can walk down the streets of Olde City and feel the the energy left by those events. You can walk where the Battle of Germantown took place. You can eat or shop in many buildings in Center City that were once part of the Underground Railroad. You can take a drive to Valley Forge where Washington's troops spent the cold winter. You will see homes built on the sites  of cemeteries that no longer exist. History is also buried beneath several city park. A stroll through Washington Square is a stroll over the bodies of tens of thousands of Revolutionary War soldiers and Yellow Fever victims. Below Logan's Circle, with it's beautiful flowers and fountain, is a potters field. Every neighborhood in the city is has it's own unique story. Some were started when the country was just beginning, and some later by immigrants form other countries. Every home on every street has it's own story to tell. History is very much alive in Philadelphia and so are many of the spirits who made that history happen.
